War of The Worlds is freaking awesome

CAUTION: SPOILERS AHEAD

Hello guys, tagal ko ng hindi nagpopost. Dami ng nangyari sa Pinas na hindi ko na tuloy nasundan. Pero let's put punditry beside to tell you about a movie....


I've watched War of The Worlds yesterday with my friends in Galleria. At first, I was hesitant about watching it cause i'd be spending some of my hard-earned cash and I may not fully understand the story. But due to peer pressure I had to watch it and I did. It was worth it.

Dang, the first scenes were boring, usual intro of the characters, etc. But believe me after that, the move was on hyper mode! Grabe, sobrang suspense at thrilling yung movie! Lalo na yung naglabasan na yung mga Tripods, yung mga alien robots na tumitira nung astig na laser na sobrang nakakatakot yung sound tapos lahat nalang ng bagay binabaril nito tapos yung mga taong nababaril naggiing abo habang tumatakas si Tom Cruise, grabe talaga sobrang suspense na hindi ako matigil sa ka-sasalita. After that, talagang nakakatakot na; like, a whole city is conquered by the aliens, lahat ng mga lugar pinupuntahan nila; talagang walang mataguan mga tao! Nung akala mo ng ligtas na yung pamilya ni Tom Cruise, may bigla nalang lalabas at aatake sa kanila! Sobra talagang anxiety yung nararamdaman nung nanonood ako. It was that nerve-racking..

I was a bit troubled by some of the scenes though. I was really scared of the thought of an alien invasion, kasi dun sa movie may pinakitang scene kung saan yung buong military nilabanan yung alien invaders tapos ni isa wlang natira sa mga tangke or sundalo. It's terrifying, super terrifying. I especially liked a scene where an alien probe was searching a basement where Ray (TC) and Rachel (daughter ni Ray, Dakota Fanning) and a "resistance" guy (Tim Robbins) were hiding. It was like a game, yung bang sobrang kakabahan ka kasi di mo mlalaman ang susunod na mangyayari. Ika nga ni Brad, "parang Metal Gear". Another scene that really scare the hell out of me was when these alien robots began collecting humans, then harvesting their blood and spraying it all over the place. I was very shocked when the camera then focuses on this bloody, red landscape of New York na may mga red vegetation na tumutubo...... grabe, napaka traumatic.

This was almost the "perfect" movie for me but merong isang drawback sa movie eh. I don't like the ending!!! I don't know what got into HG Well's mind when he wrote this but, HOW CAN MICROSCOPIC BACTERIA KILL OF AN ENTIRE ARMY?! I just can't understand how a race of uber-advanced aliens with hi-tech machinery and science didn't know the very physiological factors and components of the planet they've been planning of invading for millions of years! At kung sobrang advance tong mga aliens na to, dapat may mga gamot rin sila dito! I've read an article while I was pondering about it and it states "It can be argued that the invaders would be able to breathe terrestrial air, or they would not bother invading in the first place. Darwin's basic Theory of Evolution dictates that one species cannot completely wipe out another, and so Earth bacteria would not be able to destroy an entire species of aliens. A War of the Worlds type scenario is therefore a contradiction of basic science." Another thing is that, Robbie ( Anak ni TC, Tom Chatwell) was able to survive and go to Boston even after joining the military! Di ko talaga maintindihan kung bakit ganun! Pero, maybe it's just me, kasi nman i've never read the original novel in which the movie was based on. Iba siguro ang reaction ko kung nabasa ko yun...

Overall, Tom Cruise was amazing, Dakota Fanning was even more amazing, and Steven Spielberg is being himself again. It is a must-see for everyone who likes movies that will make you think, movies that may wind you up talking about it for hours and hours with others who've watched it. The CGI is magnificent, the whole atmosphere of the movie is wonderful, and every little aspect is great. IT'S THAT GOOD! Kudos to Steven Spielberg for making such a wonderful movie, though I still dislike the ending but regardless of that, this may be the best movie of the year.
